Pros: Bought this for my daughter who plays competitive 10U tournaments. It's great because it's light enough for a quick swing against fast pitchers. It has a lot of pop and comes off the bat hard!
Cons: The sounds is "different" and some people not familiar with the Xeno/Catalyst sound think it's "broke".
New for 2012! Since 1884, Louisville Slugger has been producing some of the most technologically advanced and highest performing bats in the game. One of their most popular fastpitch bats, the Catalyst, has gotten a facelift and returns as one of the hottest bats on the market! The Catalyst is now made entirely from Louisville Slugger's new LS-2X Composite, which is the same material used on its highest end bats. LS-2X Composite uses new thinner, high-strength and lightweight graphite fibers which allows for reduced wall thickness, creating better performance while maintaining durability. The thinner fibers allow for the use of more layers in the barrel for added strength, but with an overall wall that is thinner with considerably more trampoline effect. The Catalyst is also equipped with S1 iD Technology that allows the barrel to flex to its maximum allowable performance level from SWING 1. Two inner discs are positioned inside the barrel at the sweetspot to stop the barrel from flexing past the legal limit. For players, this means they really do get MAXIMUM allowable performance and a larger performing sweetspot. With a balanced swing weight and a cushioned synthetic grip on the 7/8" standard handle, players will be able to swing the Catalyst with ease. Louisville Slugger: Intimidate at the Plate! The Catalyst is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Pros: Received the bat on a Tuesday with a scrimmage that night. I coach a first year 14A team and 5 of our 11 girls used the bat. 1 home run and 1 triple along with several other great hits. Girls love the sound of the bat and the feel of the bat.
Cons: Blue paint scheme in the -12 would be nice.

Pros: I coach 10U and my assistant bought his daughter the '11 model last year. I was very impressed but just bought a Easton. Well, this year I could not take it anymore. Got it for my daughter for Valentines Day present and gave it to her early for our 1st practice. This thing is amazing. Everyone that is using it has increased their power by 25% it looks like. Great bat!
Cons: NONE, love the crack it makes when hitting!
by HHYS - Feb 19, 2012
Pros: My daughter loves this bat. She plays 8U. At first it was weird listening to the crack sound, but now it sounds great. The bat definitely has alot of pop. She is driving the ball and hitting it hard. She looks so good using it, that I like to use it too when hitting infield to the girls.
Cons: The bat easily gets dirty and I have to continously clean it all time. That's how much my daughter loves her Catalyst.
by Tambo - Apr 03, 2012

Ask QuestionHow is this years 2012 model different from the blue 2011 model -12 Catalyst?
Asked by Joe on Apr 19, 2012
Both the 2012 Louisville Slugger TPS Catalyst and the 2011 Catalyst are designed with the same high grade composite material. The only difference is the color.

Does it have the new USSSA 1.20 stamp so that it will be legal for 2013? I think it should read USSSA 1.20 on the taper of the bat.
Asked by Balldad on Mar 14, 2012
The 2012 Louisville Slugger TPS Catalyst: FP12C2 Fastpitch bat does not have the new USSSA 1.20 BPF stamp. The Catalyst has all of the proper markings for ASA, USSSA, NSA, ISA, and ISF making it legal for play in 2012.

My grandaughter doesn't like to use her Catalyst because it stings her hand every hit. Is this a normal thing? Also, will it hurt to use it in batting cages?
Asked by jashwrd on Feb 22, 2012
Based of customer feedback the 2012 Louisville Slugger TPS Catalyst: FP12C2 Fastpitch bat doesn't have a tendency to sting more than any other bat. As long as you use real leather softballs in the batting cage and stay away from the yellow dimpled cage balls you'll be fine, but I always recommend limiting the amount of usage in the cages.

What is the best way to break this bat in quickly?
Asked by Hope on Feb 17, 2012
To properly break-in a composite bat like the 2012 Louisville Slugger TPS Catalyst: FP12C2 Fastpitch bat, you want to start by taking about 150 to 200 swings hitting off of a tee or soft toss and then progress to live pitching. When breaking in the bat, you want to rotate the bat a quarter of an inch in your hands to make sure you are breaking the barrel in all the way around the bat.

How long will bat last and keep its pop assuming she plays 30 games a year and lots of practices?
Asked by the mopper on Jan 30, 2012
If you take care of the 2012 Louisville Slugger TPS Catalyst: FP12C2 Fastpitch bat, you should get a couple of seasons out of the bat. If something does happen to it, you are covered under a full twelve month manufacturer's warranty. It is recommended to avoid using your bats under 55 degrees, avoid storing your bats in areas under 65 degrees, and to avoid allowing the bat to be used by everyone on the team.

I'm trying to decide between the Catalyst and the Zephyr. My daughter is 12 and she plays on a very competitive travel team. Which one would you recommend? What are the differences? What is the difference in composite material used?
Asked by Coyote on Jan 12, 2012
The 2012 Louisville Slugger TPS Catalyst: FP12C2 Fastpitch bat has a -12 length to weight ratio versus the Zephyr's -13 length to weight ratio. The TPS Catalyst features a higher performing composite known as LS-2X Composite. It is better performing than the 7C Composite that the TPS Zephyr offers. Both of these bats are high performing and durable bats. You may also use our Compare Bats tool to compare different products on our site.

How do i decide which size and which bat to get between FP12C2 Catalyst and the FP12Z Zephyr for my 8 yr old playing 10u? I was thinking 29 inch 17 oz.
Asked by hrl on Nov 11, 2011
It would be difficult to give you an exact size recommendation without knowing her height and weight. For an 8 year old, a 28 or 29 inch bat is the most common length with a weight between 15 and 19 ounces. You can always try our "Bat Coach" located at the top of our website. The 2012 Louisville Slugger TPS Catalyst: FP12C2 Fastpitch bat will be a little higher performing than the Zephyr, but both are good bats.
· Nov 11, 2011
We have the 2011 model. The ball just does not seem to explode off the bat. We are looking for a new one. Are all Louisville Slugger bats made with the same technology and do they all make that shattering sound? Thinking about the XENO. Thank you.
Asked by John on Nov 10, 2011
The Louisville Slugger TPS XENO is an awesome bat. It is a two-piece fully composite design. The 2012 Louisville Slugger TPS Catalyst: FP12C2 Fastpitch bat is another great bat that is a one-piece composite design. Depending on whether the hitter prefers a one-piece design or a two-piece design will be the biggest difference in these two bats.
· Nov 10, 2011
Would this be a good bat for a consistent power hitter?
Asked by jr on Oct 27, 2011
The 2012 Louisville Slugger TPS Catalyst: FP12C2 Fastpitch bat is a one-piece composite bat. Generally, power hitters prefer one-piece bats, so the Catalyst will be a great bat for a consistent power hitter.
· Oct 27, 2011
Is this bat hot right out of the wrapper?
Asked by mike on Sep 15, 2011
The 2012 Louisville Slugger TPS Catalyst: FP12C2 Fastpitch bat features S1 iD Technology that allows for maximum performance from swing 1. The Catalyst is a one-piece full composite design, so taking it through a break-in period will only make it that much better.
· Sep 15, 2011
We have the 2011 model, FP11C2 and noticed the odd sound when hit off the end of the bat. We now notice a slight rattling as if something is loose inside. I'm assuming I have a damaged bat but with little composite experience wanted to confirm. But she loved the bat so we're likely to buy the FP12C2...
Asked by Jack on Jun 27, 2011
The 2012 Louisville Slugger TPS Catalyst: FP12C2 Fastpitch bat does have a unique feature that makes it sound different than other bats. The Catalyst has a internal disc in the barrel to ensure the bat maintains it maximum legal performance. However, if it sounds like something is rattling around, there may be something wrong and Louisville should be able to provide you with a warranty replacement. Their phone number is 1-800-282-2287. The 2012 Catalyst will be pretty similar to the 2011 model, but Louisville did upgrade the composite material used in the bat.
· Jun 27, 2011
Reviews for 2011 model TPS Catalyst refer to unusual shattering sound, not typical thud of composite bat. Does the 2012 model have the same sound? What causes the unusual sound and it does it mean the bat has less pop or will not last as well? Also, can you confirm if this bat is balanced and not end loaded? Thx.
Asked by H on May 12, 2011
The 2012 Louisville Slugger TPS Catalyst: FP12C2 Fastpitch bat has the same sound as the 2011 model. This is due to Louisville's S1 iD technology which places an internal disc or "governor" in the barrel of the bat. This technology allows the barrel to flex to its maximum allowable performance level. By no means, does this bat have less pop or less durability. It is a very popular, high performing bat. It is an evenly balanced bat.
