Pros: Best thing about this glove is that it's ready to play out of the box, easy break-in, fits smaller hands, light weight for younger girls, has good protection, and looks nice
Cons: States it's 32.5 but has smaller pocket than the 32 and 31.5 gloves I also tried. It will work now because my daughter uses an 11inch ball, but might find it harder with a 12 inch?
Mizuno is known for making it their priority to develop ball gloves for every age and skill level. The Prospect Fastpitch Series is tailor made to fit a young female player's hand. Multiple technologies make it easier for younger players to close the glove, catch the ball and learn to love the game. These gloves help youth players catch the "right" way, in the pocket. Mizuno's patented PowerClose technology places "hinges" where players would close the glove to make squeezing the ball and making the catch as simple as can be! Inside the glove, a ParaShock Palm Pad reduces all shock caused by impact and leaves the player's hand sting-free! This mitt also utilizes Mizuno's PowerLock adjustable Velcro wrist strap to create a snug, comfortable and custom fit for every player. This 32.50 Inch catcher's mitt features a deep pocket and H-Web to make snagging any kind of pitch as simple as possible. Mizuno: Be Yourself, Only Better! Free Shipping!

Pros: I purchased the glove to catch my daughter who is 10 years old. This was my first catcher's mitt purchase. I was a bit hesitant as this it is a "youth" sized glove...and my fielder’s glove is on the larger size (13in). I do have very small hands; in fact my 10 year hands are the same size and mine. Ok – I decided to take a gamble – and I love this glove! It broke in very easy. I used it the day it arrived. I do stick my first finger out the hole on the backside of the mitt – but have been very impressed with the design of this glove as my fingers are nowhere near the pocket of the glove. I do keep a 12 inch softball inside the glove at all times when I am not using it. I have used it to catch both 11in and 12 in softballs with no issues. Excellent glove for the money.
Cons: If you have really large hands, this is probably not the glove for you. Not very forgiving if you don't catch the ball in the pocket.

Pros: Was already broke in when we got it and has been an amazing glove for my 10 year old catcher. This is her first catcher's mitt and she absolutely loves it. She does not even wear an extra glove under it when catching. It looks big, but fits her very well. We do put an elastic wrap around it with a 12 in wiffle ball when not using. We never had to use any type of product on it when we got it, took it out of package and it was ready to use. We love all the mizuno brand mitts!!! My daughter catches with an 11 inch ball and a 12 inch ball and it work great for both.

Ask QuestionI ordered this glove and just received it for my 11 year old playing 12U travel. It seems small to me with a 12 inch ball in it. She will be catching pitchers that throw up to 60 mph. She is 5 foot tall and around 90 pounds. Is this glove big enough for her in 12U?
Asked by Gary on Dec 06, 2012
Based on her age, the Mizuno Prospect Fastpitch Series: GXS101 Youth Catcher's Mitt at 32.50" would be the correct size. If the mitt seems small, I would suggest looking at an adult model not a youth model.

Will this size glove accommodate a 12" ball?
Asked by Nicole on Sep 10, 2012
Yes, the Mizuno Prospect Fastpitch Series will accommodate a 12" softball.

I have a 9 year old daughter that plays select. She has been catching using a 14" fielders glove. Will this glove be a good fit for her, or would you recommend something else?
Asked by jim on Sep 06, 2012
We recommend a 31.50" for a nine year old catcher. The Mizuno Prospect Fastpitch Series will be too large for her.

We're looking for a catchers mitt. My daughter borrowed one from a teammate, the GSC105D, and really liked it. Is this glove a good comparison to that one? Thanks
Asked by M on Aug 29, 2012
Unfortunately, we've never carried a glove with the model number GSC105D and would be unable to offer an accurate comparison. However, the Mizuno GXS101 is a great size catchers mitt for a fastpitch softball player around 10 to 12 years old.

My daughter is moving to 12U and a 12" ball this year. I haven't found one in stock at a sports store to try out and am concerned about 2 things. Is the 32.5" pocket big enough to be a little forgiving with a 12" ball and is the padding enough since it says youth (her pitcher is throwing close to 50 now and getting faster). She loves her Mizuno 12.5" infield mitt but has to use a palm pad for catching.
Asked by Rooty on Aug 21, 2012
A 32.5" catchers mitt is the most common size for 12 year old fastpitch softball players. The Mizuno Prospect Fastpitch Series: GXS101 is designed to handle softballs up to 12". Also, youth mitts are made with extra padding.

Which would be better for 11/12 girls fastpitch- Mizuno GXS101 or Rawlings Champion 32"
Asked by Fred on Feb 23, 2012
The GXS101 would be a perfect size for this age group.

How is the break in on this mitt? We are struggling with break in on my 11 yr old's Easton
Asked by Britt on Jan 31, 2012
This glove will be a very good choice for a quick break in. It uses multiple technologies that make it easier for younger players to close the glove and catch the ball. Mizuno's patented PowerClose technology places "hinges" where players would close the glove to make squeezing the ball and making the catch very simple.

My daughter is 9 years old and is very slender with slender hands, will this glove be good for her as her first catcher's mitt. She has never used a catcher's mitt to play catcher before.
Asked by Jamber on Nov 06, 2011
For a 9 year old, I may recommend looking down one size. A 31.5 or 32 inch mitt would probably be better suited for her. Something like the All Star CMW1010BT or Rawlings CCMFPY may be better options.

My daughter is 11, what size softball is this mitt good for? She is moving up into the 12U league. I think they use an 11" ball? Thanks for your help =)
Asked by First State Force Girl on Oct 08, 2011
This will be the perfect size for this age.

Is this glove for softball or baseball?
Asked by bobby1234 on Sep 17, 2011
It is for softball. All fastpitch series gloves are designed for softball play.

After a recent Pony League tournament, I watched the son of a MLB catcher use a fastpitch catcher's mitt instead of a traditional baseball catcher's mitt. The glove appeared a lot easier to use and control. Given that pitchers will max out in the mid-50s, I am considering the same for my 9-year-old son's fall team. What do you think? Are you familiar with other baseball catcher's using a softball catcher's glove? Can you think of pros and cons? Thanks!
Asked by Tucker on Sep 01, 2011
Yes, I have heard of some people doing this. The reasoning is mainly for the fit of the glove. Fastpitch series gloves have smaller finger stalls and will usually fit smaller hand better, making the glove easier to control.
